About
I am an award-winning arts journalist, selected as one of twelve U.S. Journalists to participate in the 2009 NEA International Arts Journalism Institute in the Visual Arts. Additionally, I am a 2007 Creative Capital|Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant recipient and a member of the International Art Critics Association (AICA/USA), the National Arts Journalism Program, and the Society of Professional Journalists. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature/Creative Writing from the University of Texas, San Antonio.
When writing about visual art, my goal was to reflect on the myriad ways creativity is expressed and to convey the soul of the artist in a way that was accessible to the reader yet challenged them. Writing about art completes the artistic process by providing an intelligent viewer reaction. I strived to write informed observations that were more than just opinions.
And then I quit. I gave it up. I stopped writing about art. I stopped writing. Well, that’s not completely true, I wrote a few pieces, here and there. I was spending more money traveling to write about art than I earned. I figured if I wasn’t going to make money, I might as well write whatever I wanted. The thing is, I didn’t do that. I immersed myself in managing Lantern Dancer and working with Native American artists and continuing the success of my friend and mentor, Doris Green. It was her business, but she turned it over to me to run, and it was a wild ride filled with ups and downs. For a time, I thought I would buy the business from her and keep running it. However, things changed, and in 2021, I relocated to Montrose, CO, with the goal of finally getting back to my writing.
Here I am. It’s May 2023. Welcome to my new website/blog.
