Regan Rosburg is inspired by the humble network of life that proliferates on the forest floor, in the shade, beneath the canopy of trees that sore above, blocking out the precious sunlight. The artist collects objects and insects from the deciduous forest of Northeastern Tennessee where she lives on a small farm with her fiancé. Regan left her native Colorado for Tennessee a little more than a year ago. Sheʼs inspired by her surroundings and the sound of her rooster talking to his hens. These recent works created for “Understory” reflect how those changes in her life are influencing her creative work.
Since the advent of photography, visual artists have taken to using photographic images as raw data they then translate from film or digital file to their chosen medium. With the death of film upon us, more and more contemporary artists seem to be exploring what that means. Currently on view in Denver are two such artists: Isca Greenfield-Sanders and Marc Brendenburg
Though not a realist,
Schuckit’s categorizing of headline imagery is similar. She creates a raster of images
and allows them to produce a rhizome of new impressions. The scale of these
average-sized paintings is large, perhaps larger than life, as indicated by the tiny
human figures in the bottom foreground of Aerial Event 2, which plays on our
psychological distance from these dramatic events; these images play over and over,
but somehow do not manage to connect us to the disasters, whether natural or manmade.
